Black Leather Dining Chairs Cheap

In this post: On the hunt for good looking, inexpensive (ok… cheap!) dining chairs? I'm sharing 15 of my favorites plus a tip for giving your dining room or kitchen eat-in a high-end look on a budget!

If you've ever been in the market for new dining chairs, you know how quickly the cost adds up when you need 6-8 of them! Fortunately there are some nice looking, yet inexpensive dining chairs out there – and luckily I've done all the searching for you! Today I'm sharing the best places to buy inexpensive dining chairs, my fifteen favorite (and cheap!) chairs, and a tip for making your dining area look more high-end even when you bought your chairs on a budget! (post includes affiliate links – full disclosure statement available {here}).

The Best Places to Buy Inexpensive Dining Chairs

HomeGoods is a great place to shop for dining chairs if you only need a couple. You never know if you're going to have a good HomeGoods day or a not so good one ({these HomeGoods shopping tips} might help!) but I've come across some pretty amazing dining chairs there for lower prices than you'd find anywhere else. The only problem is they often only have one or two of any particular chair style so if you need more chairs than that, you'll probably be out of luck. Unless of course you have more than one local HomeGoods store and you're willing to do some driving to see if you can round up more! I actually found the ladderback side chairs in our dining room at HomeGoods about seven years ago by shopping three different stores and I still love them today:

Another favorite cheap source for chairs is IKEA – the only issue is that you want to be careful about measurements (especially if you have any bigger family members) because some of their chairs are a lot smaller in size than typical. When my husband and I first got married, we bought {this set} of IKEA table and chairs without seeing them in person and we literally felt like we were sitting at a kids play table – we still laugh about it today. 🙂

Some of my favorite online sources for inexpensive dining chairs are:

Pottery Barn (check out their Everyday Value chairs {here})

Target {here} (they have a lot of good online options you won't see in the store)

Wayfair {here}

World Market {here}

eBay (both new and used options) {here}

After doing a little online hunting, I gathered together my favorite 15 dining chairs that retail at $150 or less (most of them are available for under $100 at either their regular or sale price) and linked them all up under the chair collage photo below (you might want to Pin the image for future reference!).

Note that the price for some of them is for a pair or set of four!

The best inexpensive dining chairs that don't look cheap!

Chair One – Vintner White Wood Dining Chair available {here} – a classic X-back solid wood chair that you can't go wrong with! Also available in black {here}.

A beautiful, classic white wood dining chair that's inexpensive too!

Chair Two– Roudebush Solid Wood Dining Chair (set of two) available {here} – these are some of my favorite chairs! Love the classic spindle back design and that they come in such pretty colors including this Charcoal Gray along with Black, White, Espresso, Red, and Mint.

Chair Three – Safavieh Pembrooke Mango Dining Chair (set of two) available {here} in a beautiful antique gray finish – such a pretty woven rattan dining chair!

Chair Four – Becket Metal X Back Dining Chair (set of two) – available {here} – Love this chic, modern version of a classic chair! And if you're a color lover, the blush version of this chair is beautiful!

So in love with these gray dining chairs! And they're cheap!

Chair Five – Gayna Solid Wood Dining Chair available {here} – I love the lines of this pretty chair that has a woven rattan seat! It comes in several color options including Natural (pictured), White, Black, Walnut, and Grey.

Chair Six – Kallas Upholstered Dining Chair available {here} – an upholstered camelback silhouette chair with silver nailhead trim in both light and dark gray fabric options.

Chair Seven – this chair just recently became unavailable but {these chairs} are really similar. Also check out orgeous chairs that are similar to some much more expensive ones at Restoration Hardware. Also available in grey and in leather. Also check out {these upholstered chairs} that have similar lines but the entire back is covered in fabric.

Chair Eight – IKEA's HENRIKSDAL slipcovered chair available {here} – I have two of these along one side of our kitchen dining table in our eat-in area (you can see more of that space {here}) and love the look of them and that the slipcovers are removable and washable. The seat is quite firm so it's not the kind of chair you'd want to sit in over dinner for hours but they work well for a casual family dining spot. {These chairs} have a similar look and are higher quality and more comfortable option but they're at a much higher price point.

Chair Nine – Crest Bentwood Dining Chair available {here} in a set of two – if you like a Midcentury modern flare, these are a beautiful option! Gorgeous silhouette!

Chair Ten – Liam Dining chair available {here} – this is one of my favorite chairs on the list because I love the Weathered Gray finish and it's a great price! Also available in White, Black, and Mahogany.

Chair Eleven – Powe Side Chair available {here} – similar to Chair One with an X-back design but without a carved seat (seat is flat) so the price point is lower. Also check out {this similar chair} option.

Chair Twelve – Saint-Gratien Dining Chair (set of two) available {here} – Love the openwork double cross design on the chair backs! Comes in Light Brown (pictured) plus Green, Warm Sienna Brown, and Vanilla Bean.

Chair Thirteen – Camelot Nailhead Dining Chair available {here} – an amazing price on the Dove Gray and Cream colors (the other color options have a higher price point). Similar to Chair Six but with more nailheads and a slightly different back design. Also check out the armchair version {here}.

Chair Fourteen – Stackable Metal Dining Chairs available {here} in a set of four (so the price per chair is really low!!). They're available in your typical white, black, and gray but tons of other fun colors too!

Chair Fifteen – iNSPIRE Q Beige Linen Benchwright Chair (set of two) available {here} and {here} – a tufted rolled back Parsons chair with a reclaimed wood stain on the legs.

A Few Things to Consider When Shopping for Dining Chairs

  1. There are pros and cons to upholstered vs. un-upholstered chairs. Obviously upholstered chairs tend to be more comfortable but consider how you're using your chairs and whether your beautiful upholstered chairs will be a stained mess in a matter of months. Our girls were still pretty young at the time I bought our dining room chairs and I didn't want to be stressing about them spilling at every Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner so I went with chairs that are mostly wood (they have upholstered seats with fabric that can be easily changed out if needed). A good middle-of-the-road option you can also think about is getting chairs with washable slipcovers.
  2. Pay attention to is the seat height of your dining chairs. There's actually quite a bit of variation in seat height so you want to make sure that you're choosing chairs with a height that's comfortable for your dining table. To determine this, take the height of your table and subtract 12 inches (for example most dining tables are 30″ high so an appropriate seat height would be 30-12=18″).
  3. If you're looking at dining chairs with arms, make sure they're not so high that they'd prevent you from pushing your chairs as close to the table as you'd like.

A Favorite Tip for Making your Dining Room Look More High-End Even If You Bought Your Side Chairs on the Cheap!

This trick works every time! It's pretty simple – mix inexpensive side chairs with higher quality end chairs (it looks best if the end chairs are taller than the side chairs). If all I had around our dining room table were six of my HomeGoods side chairs, the space would look kinda boring and probably even a little bit cheap. Spending a little more money on two large wingback end chairs (mine are no longer available but {this wingback chair} is very similar) gave our dining room a much higher end look:

And if I ever decide to change things up in our dining room, my upholstered end chairs could be used as desk chairs or even bedroom chairs. So go cheap on your 4-6 side chairs if you need to and then spend just a little more to get some stylish, versatile end chairs!
